STARTING 2012 VOC REGULATIONS WILL REMAIN
IN EFFECT YEAR ROUND
As of January 1, 2012 the new VOC regulations will now remain in effect year round for the following states: Maine, Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, the District of Columbia and Rhode Island. Vermont and New Hampshire are still considering their approach to VOC regulation while Massachusetts has issued draft regulations.
The language within the regulations varies by state but indicates that manufacturers will not be able to sell or ship noncompliant products to these states. In response, roofing manufacturers such as Carlisle SynTec, Firestone Building Products, Fibertite, GAF, etc. have introduced many low-VOC alternatives to standard bonding adhesives and primers.
Carlisle SynTec and Firestone have been leading the way in meeting the growing number of VOC regulations. Carlisle is continually developing products that meet the
low-VOC requirements of new governmental regulations and green building codes while. Carlisle SynTec has also been able to lower the price of some of their low-VOC products to meet the cost of the original version.
